Katie Luo is a visual artist based in Chicago, USA.
Katie Luo was born and raised in China. Growing up, she did not have the opportunity to engage with art. After moving to the United States over 25 years ago, her curiosity of this unknown subject led Katie Luo to discover the mystery in the arts. She studied oil painting and the history of impressionism at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago starting in 2016.
As a formally trained mechanical engineer, her previous work focused on designing machines for commercial and manufacturing use. This work serves the purpose of creating machinery that functions for practical human needs. On the contrary, creating art, serves a different purpose – one that is intrinsically designed to fulfill a soul-level need for viewers.
Finding this deeper power in art made a major impact in her life. Katie decided to retire from her roles as a mechanical engineer and educator, as she dedicates herself to being a professional artist. Since then, she has never looked back.
Katie’s artwork has earned coveted awards including Best of Show, Honorable Mention and Theme of Show, and included in private collections across the United States. By sharing her artwork with others, she strives to empower viewers to pursue their passion and find their impact in the world.

Statement
I love sharing art with other people. Through travel, I gain inspiration from nature, and visualize nature into art. I create art in an oil medium using a combination of brushes and pallet knives. My paintings are influenced by abstract art and impressionism; they strive to depict vivid moments by capturing light and creating the space for viewers to imagine themselves experiencing the scenes. I intend to depict the vibrant landscape and nature with bold brush strokes and varying texture. The fascination from the vibrant paintings engages the viewers to embrace their own relationship with art and get their own experience in nature.
